For example, Staff member 1 may start at 4am today, 7.30 am tomorrow, and 5am the next day. Staff member 2 may start at 3am today, 6am tomorrow and 5 am the next day. Late shifts start between 8am and 1pm. Each shift is 8 hours (full time). Within every 3-month period, each security officer must be rostered for six night shifts from 9pm till 5am. These do not have to be consecutive. In this area there are tugs (some diesel and some electric) and trolleys, conveyor belts, and baggage handling staff at work. The area is cold, noisy and lighting is low. There is a designated walkway around the edge of this area, so staff can safety access the ready room; however, this takes twice as long, and airline staff do not use it.
