A3 Critical reflection on health leadership capabilities Due Date 29th October 2018 Weighting 15% Length 1000 – 1200 words Current best practice in leadership and management development recognises the importance of reflective practice. An effective method is being self-aware of your own current leadership capabilities and practices and areas that you wish to develop to be more effective in the future. The approach in this task is to reflect on and identify your perceived current health leadership abilities at the start of the course and to then revisit this activity at the end of the semester in light of your learning and engagement in the course activities. We will use the national Australian Health Leadership Framework (LEADS) as the basis for this task as well as your responses to your own skills assessment for managerial self-awareness from the text by Whetten and Cameron. Task description You are required to submit a critical reflection on what you perceive as changes in your key understandings, capabilities and planned areas for further development in health leadership. To help organise your response it is expected you will make reference to how your perceptions have changed – if they have and in what ways, based on your initial reflective task at the beginning of semester, your scores for the evaluative surveys for self-awareness and in relation to the key capability areas in the Health LEADS framework. Your reflection should show evidence of: Self-evaluation and reflection on own leadership capacities for the self-awareness surveys Compare and reflect on your pre and post scores for: Self-Awareness Assessment Emotional Intelligence Assessment The Cognitive Style Indicator The Locus of Control Scale Tolerance of Ambiguity Scale Provide a brief summary reflection of the changes (or not) of the scores and what they suggest to you about your current and future capacities for being self-aware as a health leader.
